سورة الشمس
Ash-Shams — The Sun
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
91:1
The Sun
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا١
By the sun and its brightness
91:2
The Sun
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا٢
and the moon as it follows it
91:3
The Sun
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا٣
and the day as it unveils it
91:4
The Sun
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا٤
and the night as it conceals it!
91:5
The Sun
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا٥
And by heaven and ˹the One˺ Who built it
91:6
The Sun
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا٦
and the earth and ˹the One˺ Who spread it!
91:7
The Sun
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا٧
And by the soul and ˹the One˺ Who fashioned it
91:8
The Sun
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا٨
then with ˹the knowledge of˺ right and wrong inspired it!
91:9
The Sun
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا٩
Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul
91:10
The Sun
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا١٠
and doomed is the one who corrupts it!
91:11
The Sun
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ١١
Thamûd rejected ˹the truth˺ out of arrogance
91:12
The Sun
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا١٢
when the most wicked of them was roused ˹to kill the she-camel˺.
91:13
The Sun
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا١٣
But the messenger of Allah warned them, “˹Do not disturb˺ Allah’s camel and her ˹turn to˺ drink!”
91:14
The Sun
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا١٤
Still they defied him and slaughtered her. So their Lord crushed them for their crime, levelling all to the ground.
91:15
The Sun
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا١٥
He has no fear of consequences.
